Q: Where can I get the lyrics for the song "Death Letter"? (from hoodoomama in the rez )
A: "Death Letter" is actually an old blues staple, the signature song of Son House. His original version was called "Death Letter Blues." Since he recorded it in 1930, other blues artists have covered it and penned their own versions of the lyrics, including Robert Johnson, Skip James, and Muddy Waters. Son House's song drew on traditional blues songs but other blues artists have recorded similar songs, such as Ida Cox, Lead Belly, and Blind Willie McTell ("On the Cooling Board").

You can google the lyrics and compare the different versions. For example, female singers sometimes change the lyrics to discuss a male lover who has died and the White Stripes recorded their own version as well that sounds slightly more contemporary. (thanks to Wanga, Memphis / NYCadd more info
